EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FOR JAPAN

A powerful 8.9 earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Japan at 2:46 p.m. JST on Friday March 11, 2011, and a series of aftershocks followed. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the initial earthquake measured 8.8 on the Richter scale, while the U.S. Geographical Survey listed the earthquake’s magnitude at 8.9. A large tsunami hit Miyagi and other northeastern prefectures. The growing nuclear concerns after the earthquake and tsunami have resulted in may people being evacuated from their homes.

The Red Cross is one of several organizations throughout the world who accept blood donations and other contributions. People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.
