Anime Delights @ Gene Siskel Film Center

Anime DelightsThe Gene Siskel Film Center presents Anime Delights in September!

Two animated features new to U.S. distribution screen on selected dates in September, along with a reprise of Goro Miyazaki’s FROM UP ON POPPY HILL. Although the great Hayao Miyazaki has declared THE WIND RISES to be his last film, his legacy of favored themes and tradition of hand-drawn animation would appear to be safe with a new generation.

PATEMA INVERTED makes peace between warring upside-down and right-side-up cultures the goal, while the film delights in images of skyward travel and flight that would make the elder Miyazaki proud. WELCOME TO THE SPACE SHOW develops a visually complex and colorful tale of space travel and intergalactic friendship as a group of kids learn something about the interdependence of species. FROM UP ON POPPY HILL weaves history and respect for the past into a gentle tale of first love.
